Tubular turbine is a water turbine for small water head and big flow which is applicable for hydro power plant with capacity from 50wk up to 2.0MW. 
Tubular turbines are axial turbines featuring axial or diagonal inflow to the guide vanes and are usually installed on a horizontal or inclined shaft. The unit can be double, single or non-regulated. These hydraulic machines are optimum for low head values. Their specific configuration allows making best use of the benefits of a Kaplan runner without the need for a spiral case and draft tube. Depending on the configuration of the rotating train, there exists different types of hydroelectric units equipped with a tubular turbine. For instance, bulb units feature the unit generator housed in a bulb in the water passage. The generator may be directly driven or equipped with a gearbox. The term "Bulb unit" includes units with bevel gear and shaft which drive the generator externally mounted outside the water passage. Other examples are the "Pit units," which have the generator housed in a pit in the water passage and allowing direct dismantling of the generator and the gearbox from above. Straflo turbines are tubular turbines typically used in rim generator units which have the generator rotor directly attached to the runner periphery. Finally, there exists also the S-type unit featuring a tubular turbine with an S-shaped water passage. The turbine drives an externally mounted generator coupled directly to the turbine shaft or through a gearbox. The S-type turbine features either downstream or upstream S-type configurations.
