The turbine casing are of spiral outline, substantially circular in cross section and are fabricated of high strength welded steel plate. The spiral case  withstand an internal pressure equal to the water hammer. An over thickness of 2 mm shall be foreseen to allow for corrosion. Contractor shall supply all embedded parts and equipment required for assembly and erection. Before erection the spiral casing and stay ring is field pressure tested under 1.5 times the max pressure. Contractor shall furnish the spiral case vent connections, piping and automatic valves as required to vent the spiral case during dewatering or re-watering. One drain line including manually operated valve are furnished complete with piping connecting to bottom of the spiral case. The stay vanes are designed and located to guide the water properly to the turbine wicket gates.
The runner is stainless steel, in accordance with ASTM A743, Grade CA6NM, with minimum of 13% chromium and 4% nickel. The runner is connected to the generator shaft (overhung type). Coupling bolts are made of corrosion resistant material. The contour of the runner blades are accurate and shall be finished according to IEC 60193 latest edition.
A turbine shaft seal are provided where the shaft passes through the head coverpreventing the leakage of water along the shaft.The shaft seal is the axial sliding ring type, preferably a combination oflabyrinth type and axial sliding ring type. The sealing elements are easily replaceable without dismantling the shaft.The shaft seal system are equipped with required safety controls andinstruments.
Head cover and bottom ring are welded steel plates, and oven stress relieved after all shop welding has been completed and before final machining. They are of heavy construction and are substantially ribbed and of ample thickness to prevent deflection and/or vibration which would interfere with the operation of the turbine. Excessive gaps between wicket gates and covers  not be admitted to compensate head cover deformation. The head cover are  fixed by means of bolts and pins to the stay ring and are provided with one or two corrosion resistant bushed bearings for each wicket gate stem. Removable and renewable stainless steel seal rings are foreseen on the head cover and bottom ring areas opposite to the wicket gates (the same composition of the runner) and at least 50 BHN lower in hardness.
